Eston Fire Captain Daryl Elaschuk

Hi, I’m Daryl Elaschuk.

What inspired you to become a firefighter?

I suppose I became interested in being a firefighter at a very young age. As I can remember my dad being a volunteer fire chief in the small town we use to live in. Then when I became more settled in Eston, I decided to join the fire department. That was over 20 years ago; now I am a Captain with the department.

I feel it is important to help other and serve my community and the surrounding ones as well.

What is your most memorable moment:

Most of our call aren’t too serious which is good. However some calls can be unpleasant. We need to appreciate and be thankful for what we have. It can be gone in an instant. That is what I find difficult see people losing what they value the most.

If I knew what being a firefighter was like when I was younger I may have pursued it as a career. It is a great thing to help others. As most of our calls have a more positive or pleasant outcome. People are happy to have you there helping them.

If someone is interested in the slightest of being a firefighter. I would encourage you to contact your local fire department.
