Honey Bee Farm

Photographer.  It’s such a general term.

There are so many, many different types of photographers.  There are your smart phone photographers, your portrait photographers, landscape photographers, and wedding photographers.  I could go on and on the list is pretty long.

It’s hard to define exactly what I do.  I take pictures of EVERYTHING.  Well except as a hired wedding photographer…..That terrifies me! Landscapes are more my forte.  What some don’t know is I do people photography as well.   Sometimes the usual smile, pose, and snap a picture type but my favourite type is the candid kind.  I like being in the crowd, in the action and capturing those moments in the mess of it.  To me there is such beauty in day-to-day things.

Recently I got a few great opportunities to photograph amazing group’s. I already posted about my time with the hang glider group.  Most recently I visited the Specht honey farm South West of Eatonia. I got to play staff paparazzi on their day to day operations.  They are really an awesome group, and photogenic.  This is where I buy my bees wax from for my furniture. By the way I’m not sure if anyone reading this has ever had fresh honey but man oh man its AMAZING!  No store bought stuff for this gal anymore.  I highly recommend some honey from this family business.  Sweetheart Pollinators/Janeil Honey they are located South of Eatonia.  Tell them Jenny sent you! So these are a few pictures of my shoot.

It was really interesting being there.  I think the only thing busier than the bees were the workers.  The best part was there was still time for laughs and smiles amongst the business. It was great.  I even got up close and personal with the bees.  They are very very neat insects.  I have to admit though I’m still a bit of a scaredy cat.  I’d get close and be busy snapping pictures and one would land on the lens or hand and I was like okay too close, too close.  Yes as they guy I was taking pictures of had his hands right in the hive next to the bees.  He’s much braver than me! I’ll just have to spend some more time there and get used to the most important staff!
