The union representing workers at the Mosaic Potash Mine at Colonsay says hundreds of workers are being laid off.
The United Steel Workers Local 7656 says there are 400 hourly workers on site, and all but 32 may be laid off.
Members voted against a contract on Monday after being without a contract since May of 2015.
