Ice Being Restored at West Central Events Centre

Date: December 27, 2015

Ice plant issues at about 3:30 am caused mechanical malfunctions at the WCEC.  Our crews able to save ice in the Co Op and Events Centre and it should be back to normal in a day or two. With the Curling Club, a decision was made to remake the ice to have it perfect for the upcoming Tankard.  Hope all are enjoying the Christmas holidays.

Update: December 27, 2015  11:30 pm

The ice compressor is running smoothly and both the Co-Op Arena and Events Centre Arena ice surfaces have begun to harden up again. Staff will repair air pockets tomorrow and are confident that both rinks will be in full operation by Tuesday causing minimal disruption to scheduled programming. A few hours of shinny and public skating had to be cancelled on December 27 and 28.

Technical issues related to the alarm notification system have been identified and corrected, with support from CIMCO.

The curling rink ice will be completely removed and remade so that it is in top condition for the Tankard in February. Town staff will offer their full support to volunteers of the curling club in the days ahead to remake the ice and we thank them for their patience and cooperation.
