Kindersley Polls Results

Kindersley saw an increased turnout at the polls yesterday, as the town cast votes for its new Council and Mayor.

A total of 1182 votes were cast on Election Day, and an additional 169 were received at the Advance Poll on October 13. A total of 3 votes were rejected for Council, and 3 for Mayor, bringing the total for Kindersley’s 2016 election to 1353 votes. This was an increase of 210 votes from the 2014 General Election—or an increase of 18.4%.

The results of the election were officially announced at 9:30 this morning, by Returning Officer Bernie Morton in the Council Chambers Administration Office.

Rod Perkins was elected as Mayor, receiving a total of 935 votes. He defeated Tom Morris, who received 413 votes.

In order of votes cast, the list of elected Councillors is as follows:

  • Coucillor-Elect Gary Becker (1174 votes)
  • Councillor-Elect Randy Ervine (1065 votes)
  • Councillor-Elect Ken Francis (917 votes)
  • Councillor-Elect Dean Galbraith (860 votes)
  • Councillor-Elect Shaun Henry (776 votes)

The sixth seat on Council was tied between two candidates: Rob Cote and Elyse Moss, who each had 598 votes. In accordance with regulations set out by The Local Government Election Act, a draw was taken, in which Elyse Moss was successor. Monte Sheppard drew the winning name, as witnessed by both candidates involved, as well as the outgoing and incoming mayors.

Candidates Tammy Anderson-Jackson, Rob Gilmour, James Garland, Chris Douglas, and Scott Faulds were unsuccessful in gaining seats on Council.
