Carla Laevens couldn’t believe it when her name was called as the Section’s Volunteer of the Year at the Skate Canada Saskatchewan Annual General Meeting recently.
“I nominated someone else!” Laevens, a longtime local and provincial (Section-level) volunteer, laughed.
“I went to that meeting [AGM] in Regina thinking this other person was getting this award, and I had written a lengthy thing [about her], and I’m ready for her to be surprised,” commented Laevens.
As the Master of Ceremonies continued reading the description about the Section’s choice for Volunteer of the Year continued, Laevens said it finally dawned on her that it would be her accepting the award.
