Students: Register Now to Experience Voting Process First-Hand!

Student Voting Program

In October 2016, Students across Saskatchewan can register in the Student Voting Program to cast ballots for mayor, councilor, and school board member. This is an incredible opportunity for students under voting age to take part a simulation of the electoral process in real time, as elections are unfolding around them. They will experience the thrill of casting a ballot, become more aware of their civic responsibility during an election, and be encouraged to become more involved in their community.

To participate in the program, you must first register your school by October 8, 2016. Participating schools will be sent pedagogical materials, posters, and election supplies. The students will be able to actively engage in the campaigning process. On Voting Day, they will act as deputy returning officers and clerks, as well as casting their own votes for the official election candidates. The results from the mock election are tabulated and posted publicly after the close of the official polls.
