RCMP alerts public of COVID-19 scam

As always, there are fraudsters out there that are trying to scam people with matters regarding the COVID-19 virus. It is important for members of the public to never give out personal information over the phone or via email.
Please be aware that the following are scams. The information has been obtained from the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center.
– Fraudsters are calling or emailing people, claiming to have fast COVID-19 tests for sale. Be aware that only hospitals can perform the tests.
– Fraudsters are trying to sell fraudulent products that claim to treat or prevent the disease.
– Fraudsters are sending phishing emails that have links to open. They manage to get your financial information through this method.
– Fraudsters are creating ads online that offer cleaning products, hand sanitizers and other items currently in high demand.
