The Community Curbside Food Drive was a success!
The Kindersley Curbside Food Drive that took place Saturday, April 18th, was an incredible success, with residents coming together to support those around the community.
Barry Andrew, Scott Holloway and Tanner Perratt of Men’s Action Plan saw a fantastic turn out with 31 teams of two or more driving the routes and collecting goods, while at the sorting site, which took place in the West Central Events Centre parking lot, ten volunteers helped out Andrew mentioned that even more people reached out and offered to help, but they were at full capacity with the 75 they had.
Set up began at noon, and volunteers started out at 1 p.m. Everyone was back at the West Central Parking Lot with their donations by 2 .p.m., and the trailer used to deliver the food to the Food Bank was packed and ready to go by 4 p.m.
Andrew said, besides helping out residents, one of the best parts of the day was “the enthusiasm of the volunteers and their willingness to contribute, along with the generosity of the community.”
As for similar events like this in the future? “I believe the need will exist for as long as the economy is shut down. So continued efforts to provide food security will be needed. Food security is the most basic of needs, and I feel that as a community, we have an incumbent responsibility to ensure those needs are fulfilled.”
