After Phase 4.1 in Reopen Saskatchewan launched on June 22nd, Kindersley’s Wheatland Regional Library is now open with modifications.
“I am glad that we are able again to provide material to the community,” librarian Marilyn Shea said in a recent interview with Kindersley Social. Shea, along with other librarians, closed the doors of the library on March 16th due to COVID-19 restrictions. Now, she has returned to manage book returns and borrows within the Kindersley Library with the opening hours 1:30 – 4:30 p.m., Tuesday – Saturday.
To limit the spread of COVID, the library is open for curbside pickup by appointment and book drop off only, and incoming items will be given a 72-hour quarantine. Items can be returned through the outdoor-access slot, and borrowed books will be placed outside of the door on a small table. Shea noted that the library is maintaining a “contactless approach,” and so the library doors will remain locked, even during operating hours. To borrow material, patrons can either select books online at www.wheatland.sk.ca/branch/75, or by calling the library at 306-463-3421. Once patrons are ready to pick up their material, they are asked to contact the library by phone or by email (kindersley.library@wheatland.sk.ca) in order to book a pick-up time.
Shea noted that scheduling a pick-up time will provide maximum protection for the materials from the outdoor elements, as well as enable the library to maintain its contactless approach. She plans to wrap the material in plastic bags and place the material out of doors 15 minutes or less within pick time.
Since COVID-19 can be spread on the surface of the books, interlibrary and inter-branch loans are suspended at this time. In order to ensure that their search is narrowed to items within Kindersley, patrons are encouraged to use the filter by location option when selecting books online. Requests for interlibrary or inter-branch loans will be logged, but not filled until libraries at a later date.
