Kindersley Bellydance Is Back

After a disappointing suspension of classes back in March, the art form known as the “all women’s’ dance” will be back in motion with weekly classes hosted by Evelyn Faubert, instructor of Kindersley Belly Dance starting September 14th in a basement studio in the United Church building on Main Street.
The course length will be six weeks long, and will start on Monday, September 14th and will last until October 26th. The weekly classes, held at 5:30 and 7:15 p.m. each Monday evening, will focus on building technique and learning combinations. Faubert says that she welcomes returning students as well as new beginners as modification and dancing according to ability are key to making the classes beneficial and fun.
Far from being an art form that demands a certain height, weight, shape or age, Faubert says Belly Dancing is called the “all women’s dance.”
“Our classes, and the art form itself, are crafted so women of all ages, sizes and shapes can enjoy expressing themselves in a way that is so natural that each woman can discover both physical benefits and an enjoyable pastime.” Faubert says that she enjoys the comradery and accepting spirit of her classes and that peer judgement is something that is left at the door.
While Faubert is glad to finally open her doors again, there are some impacts from COVID-19. For example, the class sizes are reduced to 6 persons to keep social distancing, all comers will need to wear a mask, and the dancing, normally done barefooted, will need to be done in either socked feet or with light slippers. Classes will be hosted with a 30-minute break in between for proper cleaning and sanitization to take place.
Faubert says that the smaller classes do mean limited space available, but if there is enough interest, she may be able to open up another evening in the week.
