Second Annual Larry Eby Memorial Drag Race Huge Success

By Bri Eby

Most days, it’s the sound of trumpets that echoes through the heavens, although this Saturday, it was the roar of 2 strokes that rang loud and clear. Some knew him as Larry, known to some as Butch, to his family he was a son, father, husband, and legend.

I think we all hope that when we leave this life, there are tales and stories that will live on in our memory. That was most definitely the case this weekend at the East 40 Race track. As a family, we had always known what an undoubtedly brilliant mind he had and how much love he poured into things that brought him passion. Racing and making things go really fast was one of those passions. Anyone who knew him could attest to his unmatched talent when it came to innovative thinking and fabricating.

This past weekend was nothing short of amazing, just as he was. The outpouring of people coming together to bring into fruition, such a special memorial event is outstanding.

A massive thank you to Darrell Fitterer and Terry Arnold, along with many others that put so much into making this a special day. People don’t realize how much goes into things like this, the amount of hands it takes. This on its own is a massive feat, and to have it ran so well on top of it—our dad would be so proud!

Reed Cey in the kitty kat division did the honor of taking Dad’s ashes in an honorary lap; one day you will know just how much that means. Seeing these little guys out there beaming from ear to ear would have had Dad giggling in joy. Watching these little guys, I’m at a loss for words. It’s very emotional knowing that Dad’s race will have been a part of their own snowmobiling passion–that means everything.

Thank you to all the sponsors. Thank you to each and every racer who took part and to those who came out to spectate. Each and every one of you played a part in making this day a massive success and we can’t wait to see it grow in the future.
