Career Development Team Comes Together in Kindersley
On September 22, the Sun West Career Development Teacher Team held their first Professional Development session of the school year in Kindersley. The Career Development team had the chance to network and benefit from each others’ experiences as well as meet with a couple of key allies who they will work with throughout the year.
One of the valuable networking experiences came from Adam Naismith, who is based at Westcliffe Composite School in Marengo. Adam has created a process that streamlines tracking the high school credits earned by students. Adam explained his system to his colleagues and it will improve tracking across Sun West.
One of the allies they heard from was Keely Chalk of Great Plains College. Great Plains hosted the teachers at their facility and provided campus tours, sharing highlights from several programs and answering questions from the teachers. Great Plains offers many post-secondary options and has campuses throughout the West-Central area including Biggar, Kindersley, Maple Creek, Martensville, Swift Current and Warman. The teachers also heard from Kevin Gawletz. Kevin is the Sun West Facilitator with the Regina District Industry Education Council. One of the focuses of Kevin’s work has been the production of video interviews with former Sun West students who are pursuing a wide range of careers. These interviews provide students with insights on how to prepare for their futures. These videos can be viewed here. The Regina District Industry Education Council is a great ally for Sun West and it was very useful to hear about its future development and plans.
Overall, a fantastic start to the year!
