Shooting at Estevan Police Station Leaves Officer Seriously Injured but Considered ‘Stable’

An Estevan Police Service (EPS) officer is in stable condition following a severe injury in an officer-involved shooting at the city’s police station on Wednesday.

“A member of the Estevan Police Service was involved in a serious incident at the Estevan Police Station during the course of his duties,” a news release from EPS read. “The officer was transported to Regina via STARS and his condition has been updated as stable.”

The EPS announced that further information regarding the incident would be provided as soon as it becomes available.

At approximately 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning, STARS Air Ambulance issued a dispatch to the Estevan, Saskatchewan area for an “emergency scene call.”

The situation also led to the deployment of Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) on Wednesday.

SIRT stated that it had been dispatched to Estevan and would share additional information when possible.

According to its official mandate, SIRT investigations commence upon notification of a significant incident involving a police officer by the civilian-led organization.

At 11:49 a.m., Premier Scott Moe announced on X that an EPS officer had been seriously injured in an altercation with a suspect.

In an EPS news release from early Wednesday morning, officers were present at the scene of a “serious incident” on the 1200 block of 6th Street after receiving a call just prior to 7 a.m.

One person was taken into custody.

The release assured that there was no current risk to public safety.

EPS also stated that their officers remained at the scene for several hours as the investigation continued.

Any connection between the arrest that took place early Wednesday morning and the incident that resulted in the injury of the EPS officer at the police station is yet to be confirmed

The City of Estevan, home to around 11,000 residents, is situated 200 kilometers southeast of Regina.
