Toronto Hydro Restores Power After Raccoon Causes Major Power Outage

A raccoon caused a major power outage in downtown Toronto, affecting 7,000 customers.

Hydro One said a raccoon “made contact with equipment” at a downtown station, causing the outage. Efforts were underway with Toronto Hydro to restore power. The outage extended from St. Clair Avenue W to Gerrard Street W and Avenue Road to the Don Valley Parkway.

The outage, began around 7:40 p.m., leading to multiple elevator rescues, with people stuck in them, and disrupted TTC subway service on Line 1 between Union and Bloor-Yonge stations.
