Red Wings Hire O’Brien as Full-Time Assistant

The Weyburn Red Wings have hired Casey O’Brien as a full-time assistant coach to head coach/general manager Cody Mapes.

We are pleased to announce we have hired Casey O’BRIEN as our new Assistant Coach! O’Brien spent the last two seasons as our Skills Coach.

“It’s great to hire from within. Casey has strong relationships here and brings a wealth of experience. He has represented Canada at the national level and won championships in the SJHL and CJHL with the Yorkton Terriers. I am excited for him to join us on a full time basis” – HC/GM Mapes

A native of Gloucester, ONT, in the suburbs of Ottawa, O’Brien was an assistant coach on the Yorkton Terriers from 2011 to 2016, and took the Terriers’ head coaching job in 2016-17. He was part of Yorkton’s back-to-back SJHL championships in 2013 and 2014, and the club’s Junior A National Championship in 2014.

The Wings’ coaching staff currently consists of Mapes, and fellow assistant Willy Mason.
