Town Council Approves Cannabis Store for Kindersley

On Monday evening, the Kindersley Town Council approved the beginning steps for a Cannabis Retail Store to be established in Arbour Ridge Inn & Suites on 12 Avenue East in Kindersley.
The application came before the Town Council at their meeting on August 10th, however, the council decided to table the decision to the next meeting. At their regular meeting on August 24th, the council again reviewed the request and decided to grant approval.
The council says that the store is approved for discretionary use, and the creation of the store will only be allowed to continue if it meets zoning by-law 04-14. “It is good to note that the store will also need to meet the requirements of Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority and obtain permits from that authority before it will be able to operate,” said Audrey Hebert, CAO and Director of Corporate Services of the Town of Kindersley.
Cannabis was banned in Canada back in 1923, and it was nearly 80 years before it was allowed back in for medical use in 2001. Recreational use of cannabis was made legal nationwide on October 17, 2018, and is regulated by Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority in our province. As with alcoholic beverages, the legal age to purchase recreational cannabis is 19 and it is only legally available through government-run online shops and approved retail stores.
