RCMP Break up Calgary Cocaine Trafficking Operation

The RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime (FSOC) unit has charged two individuals with 12 criminal offences following a brief drug trafficking investigation.

On Dec. 6, 2023, FSOC executed search warrants at a primary residence, an apartment used as a storage facility, and on two vehicles in the Calgary area. As a result of this coordinated search, police seized a total of 1.2 kg of cocaine which has an approximate value of $100,000. Officers also seized a loaded 9mm handgun, a Toyota RAV 4, a Land Rover Range Rover, and approximately $180,000 in cash.

Uduakobong “Joseph” Ewitat, 31, and Farahah Rizwan, 28, both residents of Calgary, were arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
  • Production of a Controlled Substance contrary to section 7(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to section 354 of the Criminal Code;
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon or Restricted Weapon contrary to section 91(2) of the Criminal Code;
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized contrary to section 92(1) of the Criminal Code; and,
  • Contravention of Storage Regulations contrary to section 86(2) of the Criminal Code.

Ewitat and Rizwan are scheduled to appear in Calgary Provincial Court on Jan. 12, 2024.
