With Re-open Saskatchewan dragging from spring straight into summer, one question remains in the forefront for families with school-aged children: will our children be able to attend school in the fall? Today, Education Minister Gordon Wyant announced that the province will be opening Pre-kindergarten through Grade 12 schools for in-classroom teaching on the 1st of September.

“Re-opening schools is a significant milestone for our province, and an important step for families to get back to a new-normal,” Wyant said today in a government press release.

Schools across Saskatchewan closed their doors on March 20th in response to the spread of COVID-19. Faced with a unique situation, schools and educators. Thanks to their efforts, students have been finishing up the school year through virtual, teacher-led classes and through online access.

The Chief Medical Health Officer is currently working with the Ministry of Education to create safety guidelines for educators, students and the school facilities. These will be released next week in order to give school divisions time to prepare their own plans of action.
