Kindersley RCMP Alert Public of Fraudulent Calls

Source: Kindersley RCMP

Recently, the Kindersley RCMP Detachment has been receiving calls from the public regarding recent fraudulent phone calls. The caller uses a spoofing app to make their phone number show up with a Kindersley prefix (463-…). They say they are a member of the police and have discovered over 20 bank accounts open under your name. They then go on to say that some of theses accounts are linked to crime and drugs.

After this, the caller asks you what your nearest police detachment is and for its phone number. They tell you someone from that detachment will call you regarding the bank accounts. Later, a call comes to you, showing the police detachment number as the caller. You will be asked for the last three digits of your social insurance number, along with some banking information.

THIS IS A FRAUD. Do not give any information about your social insurance number or bank accounts over the phone.

People in Luseland, Rosetown and Elrose have reported getting these phone calls. In each instance, the number they are calling from looks like a local number. If you receive a call similar to this, ask the caller their name and what agency they work for, and then do your own research using a phone book or the internet to find a listed phone number for that agency.

Do not use a call-back number that the caller provides.

Please report this instance to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre: https://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/index-eng.h…. You do not need to report this to the RCMP unless you have given out information or money.
