Jami Swan, Journeyman Cosmetologist, Shares Her Thoughts at Hindsight2020
We recently chatted with Jami Swan, who is a Journeyman Cosmetologist and Online Content Creator in the Beauty and Lifestyle Field. She is also a lover of hair, makeup and comfy fashion!
Growing up, Jamie always envisioned herself becoming a hairdresser, and over the years has worked in city and small town salons.
As a wife and mom of five small children all under the age of 10, Swan knows a thing or two about creating a work-life balance and finding the “thing” that works best for her and her family.
Previously she has run a gel nail and tanning salon from her home, however, right now she is enjoying the freedom and flexibility of working online, primarily through YouTube and social media outlets.
What inspired you to open/create this business?
My business ventures are always inspired by things that are bringing me the most joy at that particular point in my life. When I realize what that is, I construct a business around it. If at any point I start hitting a wall I sit down and recalibrate. When I’m on the right path things will fall into place and if they don’t I believe there is a reason for that and I adjust accordingly.
Has this always been your passion, or did you envision yourself doing something different?
For as long as I can remember I envisioned myself as a hairstylist. I’ve always had an interest in the beauty industry as a whole but never thought it would branch out into the avenues it has.
What challenges have you had along the way?
From being a wife, a mother of five and an entrepreneur I would really struggle with creating balance in each of those avenues, and though it’s a constant struggle I’m getting better at saying no to things that don’t serve my life’s path.
As someone who likes to think outside the box, I’ve also had to get used to people telling me my ideas won’t fly and staying motivated to run with it anyways.
What has been your proudest moment/achievement?
I don’t know that I can pinpoint one specific moment that makes me most proud but I can say that every time one of my visions comes to fruition it makes me proud that another puzzle piece has fallen into place.
What plans do you have for the future?
My plans for the future are to continue to learn and branch out creatively and start to bring everything I’ve learned together under one umbrella. I don’t believe I’m meant to be doing one thing in life but many things that will eventually come together in a bigger picture down the road.
