Sports Teams Await Government Decision
Sports associations across Saskatchewan are still waiting on word about what their spring and summer seasons will look like, but ultimately, everything depends on Saskatchewan’s COVID-19 situation.
Saskatchewan Athletics is also planning on holding events around June but that depends on what the provincial government decides on what’s allowed for sports.
Kindersley Minor Ball recently held an online registration, however, they have held off on requiring payments until they get approval to play.
Registration for Kindersley Soccer’s outdoor season recently closed, while their current indoor season runs until April 23rd.
A new public health order was issued on April 7th. Among other things, it prohibits team sports, but people 18 years old or younger can still keep conditioning and practicing their skills in groups up to eight people as long as three meters of distance is maintained at all times, the health order says.
If indoors, masks must be worn during training unless training in a pool. Leagues, tournaments and competitions are only permitted under Saskatchewan’s reopening plan, the health order says.
There are specific rules for the Regina area, however, as it is the province’s COVID-19 hotspot.
The current public health order expires on April 26th.
