Brenna Orton Has Been Busy With Her Creations
Anyone looking for beautifully handmade, custom items should check out Busy Bee Creations by Brenna Orton.
Beginning in 2014, Orton first began with a Facebook page and after rave reviews, it wasn’t long before she launched an Etsy shop. Over the years, Orton has taken part in trade shows, farmers’ markets and other vendor events where she sold her handmade items. It was after the success of these events, that she finally took the plunge and launched her website www.busybeecreations306.ca, where you will find items such as jewelry, clothing, drinkware, and greeting cards.
We recently caught up with this businesswoman, teacher and busy mom of two to find out a little bit more about her and her business!
Why did you decide to create Busy Bee Creations?
I created my business as a way to help supplement income and continue with my hobby. It has since turned into a huge passion of mine and a very enjoyable pastime!
Have you always been into crafting?
I have always loved a good DIY project. I used to enjoy creating with friends and I still love a good night of crafting with my girls! I can not remember a time that I did not enjoy crafting, even if I didn’t like the project I just quickly finished and moved onto something else.
Where and how did you learn to craft?
I have been crafting/creating for as long as I can remember! As a young teen, I started with a few smaller projects. I took sewing classes at Veronica’s around the age of 11, and I also enjoyed projects with my mom and friends. Over the years, I’ve taken random workshops which include classes for scrapbooking, card making, painting and beading. I’m mostly self-taught with a lot of research, and trial and error.
What have been your favorite items you have created so far?
I love creating baby announcement onesies. The parents, usually the mama-to-be, are so excited to share her secret with loved ones, and I am truly honored to play a small part in that moment.
Birthday shirts are another very popular item for me and they bring me so much joy to create. I have recently made some memorial pillows and it warmed my heart that I was asked to create such a meaningful item for someone else. These moments are exactly what I love about my business.
I’ve also recently had the opportunity to collaborate with some local businesses and while this has been a huge learning curve, I am extremely grateful to other small businesses for letting me create pieces for them.
