Liam Overand Quilts for Residential School Survivors

Over the past few months, we have all seen the tragedies that occurred at Residential Schools across Canada come to light. While many of us have wondered what we could do to help, Liam Overand knew how he could make a difference.

After his mom, Regan spotted a Quilts for Survivors group on Facebook, and began making a square to contribute, Liam, with the help of his mom, decided to participate. “When we started we were only going to make a couple of blocks but we were inspired by others who were making whole quilts. We decided to make a whole quilt ourselves too. The finished quilt will be lap-sized,” he explained.

The Quilts for Survivors group currently has 1.9K members and was formed to create quilts for those who attended Residential Schools and are the group’s way to offer support to those who are hurting.

Once Liam finishes, he plans to send his quilt to a residential school survivor on behalf of the group. “Hopefully, it will show that person how much Canadians all across the country care about them. Because what happened should not have happened and I wanted to help the survivors.”

A big thank you Liam, from all us for being such a kind, and thoughtful person. Thank you for showing others that a small gesture can create a meaningful impact in someone’s life, even if you do not know them.

For anyone who would like to contribute to the group can do so via email or mail.
