KFD PubEd Team Travels to Aquadeo to Teach Fire Safety

Hello, Cody Phinney back for another update from the Kindersley Fire Brigade.

You may have seen the KFD out and around town during some of our recent training nights. We’ve been setting up some scenarios to train some members on our apparatus pump operations as well as apparatus placement and staging. This helps us ensure we always have a capable operator on hand for any scenario we might find ourselves in! Scenario nights also give members the opportunity to test themselves and their skills in a non-emergency setting to help make sure we perform according to our standards.

Recently our PubEd team traveled to Aquadeo for the August long weekend. Members brought the PubEd trailer for the Aquadeo Fire Department to use to teach their community about fire safety! We had one member on hand for the entirety of the event to teach the operation of the trailer to the other department, and to help with any questions or concerns they may have had. Our trailer is available through our PubEd team to neighbouring communities to help with their own Public Education programs.

August is here and so is harvest for many of the farmers in our area. These farmers are working extra hard to make sure they get all their crops off the field and into bins as soon as they can. As part of harvest, they will be moving large equipment from field to field, sometimes on the highway. Combines, tractors, augers and headers are usually visible, but their rate of travel can surprise many motorists. The equipment doesn’t have the same top speed your car does so as a result many accidents occur when a driver overestimates their speed and do not slow down fast enough, colliding into the equipment. They can also be wider than a single highway lane, so please make sure you slow down and move over as much as is safe.
