SARCAN in Kindersley Offers More Than Just Recycling
When you visit SARCAN in Kindersley, you are met with many hellos and smiles from a dedicated team who do their job with great efficiency.
But did you know, the Kindersley SARCAN depot first started operations in 1988? Kim Leonard was the first employee hired. This depot building was an unheated, non-insulated garage located beside West Central Abilities in the industrial area, only refunding aluminum cans.
After a few years, the depot moved into the West Central Abilities building, and as the years went by, SARCAN recycling (part of SARC) took on more refundable beverage containers.
In 2006, the depot operations moved to its current location at 106 Railway Ave. East, where executive director, Kim Edmunds, oversees the day-to-day operations of the Kindersley depot. SARCAN is planning on moving the depot again as soon as land is available to build on.
The Kindersley depot is a category “large depot” in one year. This depot refunds between 4-5 million beverage containers, plus totes, bins, pallets and boxes of end-of-life electronics, household paint and household batteries.
Besides deposit paying for beverage containers, SARCAN also takes non-refundable products such as: end-of-life electronics, household paint/aerosol paint cans and the last item is household batteries.
SARCAN has three different options for loyal customers to return their empties by:
1. Drop N Go (sign up at the depot or online), get paid by e-transfer, cheque pick up or by PayPal.
2. Walk-in customers getting paid by cash or cheque.
3. Bulk drop off appointments made in advance.
