Jenny Visits Local Christmas Events!
By Jenny Hagan
The glittered glow of Christmas lights, the festive music, hot chocolate and crackling fires. This time of year, aglow with its colour and magic is one of my favourite things. The activities let me delve into the childlike wonder and fun which I feel is the magic of the season. West Central area was bustling with these activities this weekend, and I had the opportunity to get out and enjoy the crisp winter air.
The day started in Eatonia for their annual Old-Fashioned Christmas festivities. Walking into the packed hall you were greeted with the smell of food and sound of carols. A variety of activities could be enjoyed indoors with live music, a fishpond, crafts, face painting, cotton candy, popcorn and hot chocolate. Santa made an appearance handing out goodie bags to the smiling faces of all and led the sleigh rides around town. A makeshift curling ice and rocks sat outside the main doors with a roaring fire to keep people warm while they awaited the hayrides. The Care Home Eatonia Oasis Living cooked up some chili and hot dogs to warm the patrons. Their loaded chili dog was messy but oh so good! Santa’s Hut was hosted at the 454 Dance studio where kids could purchase Christmas gifts for their loved ones with proceeds going to the Crisis Center. The afternoon festivities were topped off by a skate with the local senior hockey
team the Huskies before their game.
That evening we headed into Kindersley to check out the annual Museum of Lights Celebration. A beautiful display of colour and heritage. Glittering lights adorning the whole museum grounds. Indoors lively music, cookies, hot chocolate and coffee. Smiling red cheeked little ones running in from sleigh rides and tobogganing. Out back the sleighs made steady rounds giving patrons an immersive tour of the hard work put in to make this display a success. In the back of the grounds a toboggan hill was set up, with roaring fires to keep everyone toasty warm. Both events offered up an array of spirited holiday activities everyone could enjoy. The museum of lights runs one more weekend Friday Dec 16th Drive through only, and Dec 17th Walk through only.
Get out and enjoy some holiday spirit!
