Kindersley Elks Donate to Kindersley Museum
The Kindersley Museum recently thanked the Kindersley Elks for their donation of $4243.01–the remainder of the organization’s funds.
“We cannot believe that you voted for us to have this gift and carry on the community spirit of the Elks. We are so sad to see another amazing community group no longer in existence, however we are very thankful to have Gary Hamilton join us on the Museum board. We will be sure this donation is put to good use,” shared the Kindersley Museum via social media.
Kindersley Elks were chartered in March of 1965 with 35 members. Within a year, a church was purchased and turned it into a home for the Elks to hold meetings and functions.
The Lodge rapidly grew and in the mid-70s there were over 200 members which prompted the executive of the time to start negotiations to build a new hall. In 1979, following a Christmas party where over 200 guests jammed the small church hall, construction started in the spring and the new facility was completed in October of 1981. The first function held in the new facility was the 1981 Walkathon, with 250 Elks and their guests attending.
In 1986, the Kindersley Elks hosted their first provincial conference, complete with catering, bar functions, and raffles. Over the years, many wedding caterings, bar functions, and shows were held.
In 1999 Bingo was started and was continued for 15 years.
In 2001, the National Curling and Provincial Darts were hosted, while the Provincial Conference was hosted for the second time.
In 2009 the Elks donated their hall to the Town of Kindersley, with the agreement that they would always have a facility in which to meet.
In 2015, the Kindersley Elks celebrated their 50th Anniversary, with the Grand Exalted Ruler Brother Duane Felt and his wife Elaine in attendance. Provincial President Brother Maurice Koszman and his Wife Judy also attended.
Throughout the years, the Kindersley Elks donated back to the community and National causes over$1.2 million dollars. Thank you Kindersley Elks, for the memories, your time and donations–they have all been deeply appreciated.
