The U13 Winter Classic Tournament came to a close Sunday afternoon, January 15, and it could not have ended any better than with an A final VICTORY for the Kindersley Lynco Klippers!
The A final game saw the Lynco Klippers face a very strong Cabri Bulldogs team. After some back-and-forth action, the Lynco Klippers were able to seal the deal with a 5-3 victory.
“Our other U13 team, the Hill Acme Kings, battled hard all weekend but unfortunately came up short in a very exciting C final matchup against the Prairie Predators losing by a score of 7-6. Our other Sunday games saw the Irvine Bulldogs beating their league rival, the Redcliff Grizzlies to win the B final. The D final was an all Warman affair as the Warman Tigers clawed their way to victory against the Warman Lions.
Saturday night we hosted our Cameron’s Clothing Company Skills Competition,” shared Ethan Wigley.
With a packed Co-op Arena, the atmosphere was electric as participants from each team took part in fastest skater, accuracy shooting, hardest shot, and the breakaway challenge.
Starting things off with the fastest skater was Kindersley’s very own Gavin Watt, who, with rockets strapped to his skates, blew past the competition with a time of 17.82 seconds. In accuracy shooting, Cabri Bulldogs, Dylan Bye hit all 4 targets in a total time of 26.8 seconds. Heading into the hardest shot there was some stiff competition but Redcliff Grizzlies Rhys Greggains hit a slap shot of 103km/hr! Rounding out the skills competition was the breakaway challenge pool A vs pool B. In a 5 round shootout where every goalie faced 5 shots, pool B was victorious winning by a total goal score of 7-5. Local pool B participants winning were goalie James Longmire and shooter Noah Petrie.
“Thank you to our amazing KMH Sponsors as well as our private sponsors who donated to our stacked prize table. Thank you to the players and coaches for the competitive action that weekend. Thank you to the referees and rink staff. Most importantly thank you to our tournament committee for organizing our tournament and to our parents as well as the KCS high school volunteers who filled in for some shifts so our parents could watch their kids play. Without our amazing sponsors and volunteers, this tournament does not happen. Lastly, thank you to our team sponsors- Lynco Hot Oilers & Hill Acme Machine for everything you have done for our two teams so far this season as well as sponsoring the $1,000 guaranteed 50/50. Our 50/50 winner was U18 Coach Jon Baier,” said Wigley
