Kindersley Fire’s Newest Members Undergoing HazMat Awareness and Operations Tests
Hello, Cody Phinney back for another update from the Kindersley Fire Brigade.
This weekend will see some of our newest members undergoing their 1072 HazMat Awareness and Operations written tests. These exams will test their knowledge on a multitude of hazardous material scenarios. Upon completion, they will also be undergoing a hands-on practical exam as well. These members have also been training and studying for their 1001 professional level certifications simultaneously, keeping them very busy!
As part of our regular scheduled training, we have been practicing various knots and rope uses for various fire ground activities. Our members have learned the correct techniques for hoisting tools, and rescuing potential victims. We have also practiced various carrying techniques to rescue a person from a ladder. Some of these techniques make it possible to rescue a person several times your own weight.
With the New Year comes a great time to do annual and monthly checks of your smoke detectors and replacement of batteries. They also have a maximum expiration date of 10 years from the date of manufacture, so be sure to replace them if needed. The expiration date is usually printed on the inside of the battery compartment behind the batteries. And of course don’t forget your carbon monoxide detectors!
Thanks for reading!
