What can be said. The effort was there for the first two periods of hockey but the score was a little disappointing for the last home game of the season. On Friday night the Battlefords North Stars came in with the best record in the SJHL and also came out hot and scored twice in the first minute. We got one back and then with 0.07 seconds left in the 2nd period, Battleford scored again making it 3 to 1.
So the floodgates opened up as Battlefords scored 7 more times in the 3rd, making the final score 10 to 1. Defenceman Kyler Smith had to leave the game with a cut lip to which he took 15 stitches to close. That didn’t help as we were down to four defencemen and a Battleford team that skated hard and were relentless in their game. There was a reason they came into the game with 95 points to our 35. They proved who was the better team.
Goaltender Logan Falk was extremely busy as he faced 42 shots. 618 fans were shell-shocked over the offensive power shown by the visiting North Stars. They are a team with no giving up.
The return game the next night (Saturday) was no picnic for the Klippers either as the final score was 8 to 0. Kindersley goalie Cody Jaman faced 40 shots from the high powered Battleford team. I’m sure there will be changes in the works for next season. What those changes will be remains to be seen.
