Thursday, March 9th, 2023–this was the day that the Jrs got embarrassed and teased by team Governor, Kyle Adamson. It was also the day that some of the players were recognized for on and off ice achievements.
Emcee Kyle Adamson was at his stand up best as he roasted almost everyone of the players. Even taking shots at the Board of Directors! But, he was also very hearty with his praise and appreciation of all the volunteers and everyone who has helped make the season what it was. No, it wasn’t the best season points wise but a significant amount of learning went on for players, coaches and the Board. Progress is the word.
Team President Brett Sautner was up next and he carried forward with what Kyle touched on. He thanked all the parents, billet families, sponsors and rink staff, etc who gave of their time and money to help the Klippers.
Head coach Tyler Traptow came up and spoke about how his season has progressed. Topsy turvey and everything in between. From coaching U15 a year ago to head coach in the SJHL! Still, it was a year filled with a steep learning curve and Trapper has made many friends on and off the ice and he thanked everyone for having confidence in him to finish the season as the top dog. He feels that the best is still to come for this team.
Following Trapper were the three departing 20-year-olds. Aiden Bangs was first up and thanked former coach Ken Plaquin for believing in him and giving him a chance to play hockey at an elite level.
Captain Brayden Koch thanked coach Trapper and his teammates for coming together as a team . His eyes misted a bit, but he held it together and finished by thanking each one of his teammates.
Last and certainly not least was Matt Mazzocchi. He ad-libbed his speech as he had nothing prepared, but it came off well. He said he will miss playing with these guys next year.
