Valley Towing Assists in Training New KFD Members

Hello, Cody Phinney here, back for another update from the Kindersley Fire Brigade.

You may have noticed some vehicles in pieces next the Fire Hall two weeks ago. With some help from our friends at Valley Towing we were able to secure these vehicles to help train some of our newer members, and refresh the skills of others, on our vehicle extrication tools and procedures. Some of the skills practiced were vehicle stabilization, how to operate hand tools safely and correctly, and of course the operation of the cutters and spreaders. Some of our members will be attending a Transportation Rescue Extrication program hosted by SGI. The T.R.EX. program instructs participants on the latest and greatest vehicle extrication techniques with some of the most advanced extrication tools available.

A burn from boiling water or even a cup of coffee can happen to anyone at any age, but children, elderly and people with disabilities are especially at risk. Keeping hot liquids in a container with a wide base and in the center of a table or the back of a counter top could prevent a serious burn from occurring. Consider establishing a “kid free zone” of at least one meter around the stove or area where hot foods or drinks are prepared. And most importantly, keep all handles on pots and pans turned away from the front of the stove so they won’t be easily knocked over or pulled off the stove.
