Prince William and Sir David Attenborough Launches New Children’s Book

Prince William’s Earthshot Prize has teamed up with Hachette Children’s Group to create a non-fiction book aimed at educating children about the planet and climate change. Having been described as an inspiring and practical environmental guide for children, the book will celebrate the diverse habitats, remarkable animals, and stunning landscapes of our planet.

The Prince of Wales will collaborate with Sir David Attenborough on this book, which is scheduled for release on October 12, 2023. Titled ‘The Earthshot Prize: A Handbook for Dreamers and Thinkers – Solutions to Repair Our Planet,’ the book is authored by Colin Butfield and Jonnie Hughes.

Featuring an introduction by Prince William himself, the book will also include contributions from David Attenborough, actor Shailene Woodley, and Christiana Figueres, the former executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Both authors, Colin Butfield and Jonnie Hughes, have extensive experience writing articles and working on projects related to environmental issues. Jonnie Hughes has collaborated with David Attenborough on several documentaries. They jointly emphasized the importance of empowering the next generation and encouraging young dreamers to become resilient optimists who believe in their ability to create positive change and improve the world for everyone. They acknowledge that repairing our planet is a challenging task that will require the dedication and efforts of a whole generation, and they aim to inspire and equip young readers for this journey through their book.

In 2020, Prince William founded the Earthshot Prize, which recognizes and rewards individuals for their contributions to environmentalism. Each year, five winners are chosen, and the inaugural award was granted in 2021. This tradition will continue annually until 2030.

Recipients of the Earthshot Prize receive a grant of £1 million to support their environmental work. This financial assistance enables them to make a tangible impact on the planet and promotes innovation in addressing urgent environmental challenges. Through this collaborative book project and the ongoing awards, Prince William and the Earthshot Prize aim to inspire future generations to dream, think critically, and actively engage in repairing and preserving our Earth.
