West Central Abilities and SARCAN Celebrate Milestone Anniversaries!
It was a memorable Friday, June 9th evening at the Norman Ritchie Community Centre as the West Central Abilities was celebrating their 50th anniversary as well as SARCAN celebrating their 35th anniversary with employee recognitions, retirees and service awards.
WCA’s inception was in 1972, started by a group of parents seeking opportunities for their adult children experiencing disability. They knew that the world had much to offer to all individuals. This has proven true as evidenced by the services they provide today.
WCA’s residential services have evolved from a single farm near Eatonia, to a farm East of Kindersley, to now having three residences within the Town of Kindersley. Respite services are offered to families or other service providers in need. Additional residential supports are being provided to individuals living independently or semi independently.
In collaboration with local and surrounding schools, transition planning is offered for students to grow and changeover into adult person-centered programs.
WCA has made immense progress in services it provides and shall continue to evolve in a steadfast, sustainable, viable direction.
While attitudes and perceptions have come a long way, more effort, education and involvement are needed for full inclusion for persons experiencing a disability. Accessibility, freedom, empowerment and equal opportunity are crucial for the recognition of full citizenship for all people regardless of ability.
They are looking forward to the day they host the Grand Opening of a new day program facility located on 1st Avenue in downtown Kindersley. The new location will offer more opportunities in an accessible, safe, fully equipped building that is compatible in the meeting of the current and future needs of the Agency.
