KFD Acquires a New-To-Us House
Hello, Cody Phinney back for another update from the Kindersley Fire Brigade.
I hope everyone has been having a safe and fun summer so far! You may have noticed a new addition to our training grounds out on the west side of town. KFD has acquired a new-to-us house! It’s a bit bigger than our existing house and has a more modern layout which allows us to practice different and larger scenarios than we currently can. Our members have been very busy prepping the structure for our needs and preparing it for scenarios. Just this past week we were able to redo some shingles and siding which will ensure we can make use of it for many years to come. We are currently on track to have everything ready and get some good use out of it before the summer is over.
Over the Canada Day long weekend some of our PubEd team members participated in the festivities hosted by Better Together Kindersley at Bakers Park. Our team had the Public Education Trailer setup and available for tours, our dunk tank was set up, and we had our “fire house” available for kids to be able to spray one of our hoses at. We even helped Better Together operate their extra-large Slip and Slide! Later in the day we were invited to challenge the Better Together team at Tug of War! We put up a hard fight, but in the end, they pulled through ahead of us. In the evening we had some additional members help out and provide fire control at the fireworks. Thank you everyone who came out to make sure Canada Day was a success!
With the scorching hot heat summertime brings, you and your family may be tempted to go for a swim. Swimming is a great way to cool down and to get some physical activity. If you do go swimming, it is always best practice to never swim alone and use the buddy system, even if there is a lifeguard present. Swimmers should always know their physical limits and to stay well within them, swimming can be deceptively difficult especially in natural bodies of water. Don’t go farther or deeper than you can handle and keep in mind that cold water or rough conditions can impact your swimming abilities. Children should always wear a
personal floatation device that fits properly and is brightly coloured. Water can quickly distort or make a swimsuit “disappear” in just a couple feet of water. Check out our Facebook page for a guide on swimsuit colours and how visible they actually are!
