Province Encourages Patients to Download “Saskatchewan Virtual Visit” App
The Government of Saskatchewan is reminding patients and providers of a free tool to increase accessibility of medical appointments.
Introduced in June 2022, the Saskatchewan Virtual Visit Program enables patients to connect with their healthcare providers from the comfort of their homes or any chosen location through audio or video conferencing. Patients can even have family members or support persons join them during the consultation.
This program is open to various healthcare providers across Saskatchewan, including physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, and allied health care professionals like physiotherapists. Its main objective is to ensure that all Saskatchewan residents, regardless of their location, can easily connect with their healthcare providers. Health Minister Paul Merriman expressed that the program significantly improves access to care, particularly for patients in rural areas, while also allowing providers to offer timely treatment on flexible schedules.
Using the Virtual Visit Program is hassle-free and compatible with any mobile device, accessible through a web browser or the dedicated mobile app. It caters to patients across Saskatchewan, even those in low bandwidth environments. To access the program, individuals can simply download the “Saskatchewan Virtual Visit” app on their mobile phones. Notably, the program is entirely free, and patients are assured that providers will never request payment for its use.
For patients interested in utilizing this virtual visit option, they are encouraged to discuss it with their healthcare providers. Participating physicians will then send an email invitation with further instructions. Rest assured, the program adheres to the highest industry standards concerning privacy, security, and reliability to ensure a safe and trustworthy experience.
