Over 5,000 Sask. Drivers Caught Speeding in July

July sees 2023’s highest total of speeding tickets issued in a month.

Summer isn’t the only thing that has been flying by. According to the results from the July Traffic Safety Spotlight, more than 5,000 Saskatchewan drivers were caught moving at an accelerated pace.

Specifically, Saskatchewan law enforcement ticketed 5,370 drivers in July for speeding or aggressive driving offences, which was the highest total in that category for the year.

Other results from July:

  • 468 impaired driving offences, which included 186 Criminal Code charges and 282 administrative suspensions for exceeding provincial limits;
  • 464 seatbelt-related tickets; and
  • 739 tickets for distracted driving offences, including 621 drivers ticketed for using a cellphone while driving.

With children heading back to school, school zones and playgrounds and crosswalks will be buzzing with activity. Now would be an ideal time for drivers to study up on safe driving, and it starts with obeying speed limits, not using a phone while driving, buckling up and driving sober. It will make the roads safer for everyone and prevent you from getting a ticket.
