Fire Prevention Week: A Message from Fire Chief Jeff Soveran For Fire Prevention Week 2023
Fire Prevention Week works to educate people about home fires and the ways they can better protect themselves and their loved ones. Local fire departments play a key role in bringing Fire Prevention Week to life each year by spreading basic but critical fire safety messages.
The Kindersley Fire Department is engaged with our community and beyond. When it comes to public education, we believe that educating people of all ages is a great way to fight fires before they start.
The theme for Fire Prevention Week, October 9-15, 2023, is “Cooking safety starts with YOU!”
The following are key messages we hope the public will take into consideration when cooking:
- Watch what you heat. Always keep a close eye on what you are cooking. Set a timer to remind you that you are cooking.
- Turn pot handles toward the back of the stove. Always keep a lid nearby when cooking. If a small grease fire starts, slide the lid over the pan and turn off the burner.
- Have a “kid- and pet-free zone” of at least 3 feet (1 meter) around the stove or grill and anywhere else hot food or drink is prepared or carried.
