Congratulations to Char Dansereau, the Career Development Teacher for Lucky Lake, Beechy and Dinsmore Composite Schools who was recognized as a Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship Champion at the November 3 Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship (SYA) Awards in Regina. The SYA Awards attracted 400 people from across the province and Ms. Dansereau was one of four people recognized as Champions.
The SYA program gives high school students who register as an apprentice after graduation the opportunity to learn more about the skilled trades career pathways available to them and gain a head start on their skilled trades career. The SYA Awards are hosted each year by the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trades Certification Commission (SATCC) to honour students, employers, educators and others who have been successful with various aspects of the program.
SYA Champions are integral to the success of the SYA Program. They facilitate the program in schools across Saskatchewan and the SYA Champion Award is given to individuals who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the program.
“Our Career Development Teachers across Sun West support interested students with the SYA program, explained Vanessa Lewis, the Learning Consultant responsible for the Career Development Program in Sun West, “As a Division, we have worked collaboratively to promote and support the Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship Program and connect students/families to the incredible opportunities it provides. The SYA program aligns with our division plan in the area of Career Development, yet it takes dedicated individuals like Char to bring opportunities such as this to life.”
Great work Ms. Dansereau!
