Kindersley Screen Arts Bringing More Great Films to Town in 2024
Movie lovers you are in luck, because Kindersley Screen Arts is bringing another round of amazing movies to town for 2024!
Started in 2015, Kindersley Screen Arts is a committee run non-for-profit group that brings some of the world’s best cinema to Kindersley. The group was originally part of the Kindersley and District Arts Council before they decided to go on their own in 2016.
Judy Lavoie, the founder of Kindersley Screen Arts, shared her excitement for the year ahead and her appreciation for those who support the Screen Arts. “Not only are we excited to show these movies, but we want to thank Shane and the Sunset Theatre for allowing us the use of the theatre and also our sponsor Speedy Auto Glass. We are looking forward to seeing you all at our first movie of 2024.”
Through a partnership with the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Kindersley Screen Arts has access to a rich variety of acclaimed Canadian, foreign, and independent films. For those who may not know, the Toronto International Film Festival is one of the largest film festivals open to the public. It draws over 480,000 attendees to downtown Toronto every year, and is dedicated to presenting the best of international and Canadian cinema while creating a transformational experiences for film lovers and creators of all ages and backgrounds.
In 2023, Kindersley Screen Arts brought a host of great TIFF films to town such as: Jules, Theater Camp, and The Miracle Club. Movie goers can look forward to another round of movies this year, all of which have garnered rave reviews that are best experienced on the big screen. In fact, Kindersley is privileged to be one of only three Film Circuit Centers in Saskatchewan to host these films.
Kindersley Screen Arts invites everyone to join them at the Kindersley Sunset Theatre on January 27 at 4 pm for their next screening, ‘Next Goal Wins.’ Directed by Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit, Thor: Ragnarok), Next Goal Wins follows the infamously terrible American Samoa soccer team, known for a brutal 2001 FIFA match they lost 31-0. With the 2014 World Cup Qualifiers approaching, the team hires down-on-his-luck, maverick coach Thomas Rongen (Michael Fassbender) hoping he will turn the world’s worst soccer team around in this humorous and heartfelt underdog story.
