Saskatoon Sees Largest Population Boom Since World War II
The City officials in Saskatoon estimate that the city experienced its most significant annual population increase since World War II last year.
Based on data from Statistics Canada, it’s believed that the city’s population expanded by approximately 14,400 individuals from October 1, 2022, to October 1, 2023. This growth surpasses the previous record over the past two decades, which was set in 2012 with an increase of 7,000 people. Saskatoon regularly tracks population changes as a key element of its ongoing urban planning and development strategy.
The latest increase has the city looking at how many residential buildings will accommodate the growing population. One area that could see a big impact in regards to future planning is the federal housing accelerator fund.
Saskatoon city council approved a housing accelerator fund action plan last year.
