Klippers VS Weyburn Double-Header
Can you say WHOO HOO?!
The hanger at the WCEC was a rockin’ on Friday the 2nd and Saturday the 3rd as the visiting Weyburn Red Wings came a calling for a 2 game stint. Weyburn was trailing the Klippers by 1 point to start the weekend and when the snow settled, the Klippers took 3 out of 4 points.
Game 1 saw the Klips down 2 goals in the 3rd and with just 13 seconds left on the clock, Tylin Hilbig tied the game to send it to overtime. Unfortunately, the Red Wings scored with 1:36 left in the OT to give them the extra point. So now the teams are tied with 37 points. Weyburn had the lead in penalties by racking up 6 to our 5.
“Noodles” Jaman played very well in goal and the whole team played well in front of him, considering the flu bug was making the round. Both teams knew the stakes and neither team wanted to back down as now more than ever, points matter.
Game 2 on Saturday proved to be entertaining and suspenseful. Tylin Hilbig was a scoring machine as he scored a natural hat-trick (3 goals) and was a force all night as he proved his leadership. Logan Falk was one of the sick Klippers, so coach Clayton Jardine decided to rest “Noodles” and went with back up goalie John McPherson and boy he did not disappoint! He turned aside 36 of 37 shots and was named the games 3rd star. The only goal he allowed came with just under 9 minutes left in the game. The word shut out was mentioned but……… it was not to be.
Weyburn gave the boys fits and tried to get them to take retaliatory penalties to questionable plays and the referees didn’t seem to be consistent with their calls; to the point where you could hear boos coming from the stands. Kindersley took 7 penalties to only 6 against Weyburn.
589 fans cheered the Klippers win and now look forward to a match again the Yorktown Terriers on Wednesday, Feb. 7th at 7:30. Come out and cheer on our winning team. With John McPherson playing so well, Clayton has a touch decision to make!
