Kevin Recap’s the Mixed Curling Provincials Held in Kindersley
Hurry, Hard!
You can hear that being yelled by the skips at any curling rink all across Canada during the winter months. Curling is a very competitive sport, full of in-turns, out-turns, sweeping and the province of Saskatchewan is famous for producing world class curlers. Rural curling is a hugely popular sport winter with the older crowd but its nice to see younger people taking an interest! This year the Mixed Curling Provincials are being held in Kindersley and hosted by the Kindersley Curling Club.
With teams competing from curling clubs in Kerrobert, Rosetown, Twin Rivers curling club in North Battleford, the Highland curling club in Regina, Swift Current/Moose Jaw, and the Kronau curling club, you can bet the intensity level was high. These guys and gals are skilled and just love playing this sport. 10 team all vying to be the winner this weekend. This is a direct entry tournament which means they didn’t have to qualify through their club.
The Sunday final was an 8 end game that featured 2 teams from the Highland Curling Club; the Springer team and the Auckerman team. It came down to the final rock and Team Auckerman prevailed with a 9 to 6 final score. There many quality shots by both teams and the score was back and forth.
The upper lounge at the Kindersley Curling Club was full of passionate curling fans who loved seeing 2 good teams battle it out til the end. And they got their moneys worth. What’s next for curling in Kindersley? Stay tuned as a big announcement is coming.
