Kindersley Early Years Family Resource Centre Providing a Place for Families
Since opening its doors a little over a month ago, the Early Years Family Centre has been providing a place for families with children from prenatal to five years to connect and grow.
Located in what was once an RM office at 409 Main Street in Kindersley, Coordinator, Jo Simpson and Program Designer, Lisa Presler have quickly established a place filled with activity and learning. Providing a space for families to learn together, while supporting the development of young children, activities vary and cater to the needs of both children and adults, focusing on art, dramatic play, movement and building during Family Playtime sessions. “Children and adults alike, can enjoy bonding together and fostering friendships during Family Playtime. This is where caregivers and their children have access to the centre’s play zones to engage alongside in activities,” shared Lisa.
The centre is excited to provide a range of free activities, including drop-in sessions and pre-registered events. Highlights include weekly ‘Music with Littles’ classes, and a caregiver information evening on nurturing emotional intelligence in young children. All these events aim to support family well-being and child development. Another exciting event is the monthly visits from Public Health Nurses for newborn care. “We will be hosting monthly visits from Public Health Nurses for Newborn Feeding and Weight Check-ins on the third Tuesday of each month from 1-3pm, on a drop-in basis,” explained Jo.
Opening times vary (be sure to check their Facebook page for weekly schedule event information) the Early Years Family Centre invites all families within the community to take advantage of the resources and activities it offers. Everything at the centre is free, making it an accessible option for families looking to support their children’s early development in a friendly and welcoming environment.
Feedback from visiting families has been overwhelmingly positive, inspiring Jo and Lisa to continue developing the centre. “We are excited to be building your community’s Early Years Family Resource Centre,” explained the pair. “With family and community input, we will continue to explore, create and experiment to bring a wonderous place for families.”
While the grand opening date is still to be announced, the centre’s calendar of events is available on their Facebook page.
