Kevin Chats with Senior Klipper Travis Child

By Kevin Martin

Today we had a chat with Travis Child, the Kindersley Sr. Klippers netminder whose stellar play has earned him the “Goaltender of the year award”. The 24-year-old kid from Killam, AB. has always been a goalie and his dedication has shone through.

Currently, he’s finishing Ag Business in Saskatoon so he can return home to look after the family farm; a mixture of grain and cattle. We kind of reminisced about the equipment and the changes that have been made. Bigger and lighter pads, composite material sticks compared to the old wooden ones; even the design of the mask has changed. Also, the change from playing outdoors to indoors! Yes you could say times have changed.

Travis was very appreciate about the award but did tell me that the players in front of him doing their job makes his job that much easier. After all, it is a team game and when everyone does their part; the game seems easier and more fun. His team mates know that they can count on him to handle the puck, make the save, an encouraging word, whatever it takes.

The Sr. Klippers are on a roll with the best record this season and Travis Child, along with fellow goaltender Luke Sproule have been a big reason for that success.
