SJHL Power Rankings For Oct 31st
The SJHL Power Rankings are decided each and every week by a group of SJHL broadcasters and will be released each Tuesday.
1. Flin Flon Bombers 13-1-1-0 (Last Week 1st): For the first time this season the Flin Flon Bombers suffered a loss in regulation. However, despite the loss, the Bombers did earn four out of a possible six points this past week and played extremely well in their loss, outshooting the Millionaires 46-15. Just the one game for the Bombers this week as they play host to the Melfort Mustangs on Thursday.
2. Humboldt Broncos 8-0-2-1 (Last Week 2nd): The Humboldt Broncos are the lone team to not fall in regulation so far this year. After falling in overtime to the Estevan Bruins Wednesday, the Broncos earned a weekend sweep of the Kindersley Klippers. Jeter Korte had a great week for the Broncos, finding the back of the net three times and adding an assist. As a result, he was named DirectWest Rookie of the Week. The Broncos will play a home and home this weekend with Nipawin Hawks.
3. Melfort Mustangs 10-3-1-0 (Last Week 3rd): It was an okay week for the Melfort Mustangs as they earned three out of a possible six points. However, their last outing was a 3-2 overtime loss to the Yorkton Terriers in Kamsack. They will be looking to bounce back on Wednesday when they host the Estevan Bruins. Melfort will also be in Flin Flon on Thursday.
4. Battlefords North Stars 8-6-0-1 (Last Week 5th): After a 10-5 loss to Weyburn Thursday, the Battlefords bounced back in a big way Friday and Saturday with a 5-2 win over Estevan and then getting some revenge on the Wings Saturday, winning 9-2. Kian Bell’s return to the line-up was noticeable as he found the back of the net five times and added five assists. As a result, Bell was named SGEU MVP of the Week & Bourgault Forward of the Week. The Stars will return to the ACC in North Battleford this week to play a pair of games with the Yorkton Terriers.
5. Melville Millionaires 8-4-0-0 (Last Week 4th): The Melville Millionaires were one of the busiest teams this past week, playing a total of four games. The Mills ended up going 2-2 during that stretch, knocking off both the Melfort Mustangs and Flin Flon Bombers. After a lengthy three game in three night road trip, the Mills will have a much lighter schedule this week as they play a pair of games against the Notre Dame Hounds.
6. Weyburn Red Wings 7-4-0-3 (Last Week 6th): It was an up and down week for the Weyburn Red Wings as they hosted the Battlefords North Stars for a pair of games. They earned a 10-5 win Thursday, but then fell 9-2 Saturday. Some good and some bad. The Wings will now get some time off as they won’t be in action this week and won’t return to the ice until Wednesday, November 8th when they visit the Kindersley Klippers.
7. Nipawin Hawks 7-6-0-1 (Last Week 7th): It was also an up and down weekend for the Nipawin Hawks as they fell 3-2 to the Flin Flon Bombers early in the week, but then had an impressive win over Notre Dame on Sunday. Now with some new weapons up front following a couple of transactions, the Hawks are looking to build some consistency. They will tangle with Humboldt twice this weekend in a home and home.
8. La Ronge Ice Wolves 5-9-1-1 (Last Week 11th): The seven game homestand may have been just what the doctor ordered for the La Ronge Ice Wolves. La Ronge picked up another pair of victories this weekend, beating Notre Dame and Melville, and now all of a sudden the Ice Wolves are sitting in a playoff position going into the new week. The Ice Wolves will wrap up their lengthy homestand with a pair of games with the Estevan Bruins on Friday and Saturday.
9. Estevan Bruins 4-6-0-2 (Last Week 10th): After an emotional 3-2 overtime victory in Humboldt Wednesday, the Estevan Bruins followed it up with a tough 5-2 loss at home to the Battlefords North Stars. The Bruins are also trying to figure out their offence as they have only found the back of the net 28 times this season, which is the lowest in the SJHL. The Bruins will play three out of four on the road this week. It begins Wednesday in Melfort and then continues in La Ronge Friday and Saturday.
10. Kindersley Klippers 3-8-1-1 (Last Week 8th): The Kindersley Klippers have lost 5 straight games and as a result, they continue to slide down the Power Rankings. With that being said, they have had one of the toughest schedules so far this season. This past weekend they played a pair of games with the Humboldt Broncos and narrowly fell on Saturday night. The Klippers will be looking to return to the win column Tuesday night when they host the Nipawin Hawks. They will also host Yorkton on Saturday.
11. Notre Dame Hounds 4-11-0-0 (Last Week 9th): Going North for three games in three nights is never easy and for the Notre Dame Hounds this past weekend they were able to start the trip with two points but were unable to add more. Cole Wirun continues to produce for Notre Dame, he has earned at least a point in every game with the Hounds since being acquired from Canmore. The Hounds will battle the Melville Millionaires this weekend in a pair of games.
12. Yorkton Terriers 4-7-1-1 (Last Week 12th): The Yorkton Terriers got back in the win column Saturday night in Kamsack with a 3-2 overtime win over Melfort. The question now for the Terriers is whether or not they will be able to build off of that victory as they hit the road for three games in three nights this week. They will play a pair of games against the Battlefords North Stars and then wrap the trip up on Kindersley on Saturday.
