Kindersley RCMP See Increase in CRA Scams
Kindersley RCMP have noticed an increase in enquiries about Canada Revenue Agency scams and would like to remind the public about some of the signs to look for when dealing with these calls:
- They threaten you with immediate arrest if you do not act.
- Want to set up a meeting with you in a public place.
- Demand immediate payment by e-transfer, bitcoin, prepaid credit card or gift card.
- You are asked to click on an e-mail link they will send you.
If you are in doubt about the caller ask yourself:
- Why is the caller pressuring me to act immediately? Am I certain the caller is a CRA employee?
- Have I received written communication from the CRA by mail or email about the subject of the call?
- Is the caller asking for information I would not give in my tax return?
- Does the CRA have my most recent information including my e-mail address or work/home address?
If you have been contacted by one of these people you can report the attempt to the Canadian Anti-fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501. If you have fallen victim to one of these scams then phone your local RCMP Detachment to report it.
