Beechy School Supports Local Historic Site

By Sun West School Division

Jonesville School is former one-room school house near Beechy that has been lovingly preserved and maintained by the Jonesville School Museum Association. Students from Beechy School love to make trips to this historic site to appreciate the experiences of area pioneers, many of who were their own ancestors. Recently, Beechy School made a $500 donation to help with repairs to the Jonesville School roof from funds raised through its History Book project.

Last year as part of Beechy School’s writing goal, Personalized electronically Blended Learning (PeBL) Mentor Brianne Denning headed up a very successful History Book Project. Students researched, wrote and compiled the community history book that includes Jonesville School. After it was completed, copies were sold and it was decided some of the profits would be donated to support Jonesville School.

The cheque for the support was presented to Jerry Wiens with the Jonesville School Museum Association by his great niece, Julia Wiens, who also wrote the section in the History Book about Jonesville School.
