Klippers VS Flin Flon. Game 1
These weekend games against the visiting AND 1ST place overall Flin Flon Bombers promised to be good.
The Klippers are going in with a 2 game winning streak and Flin Flon are coming into this game on a losing note, as they fell the night before to the Humboldt Broncos. Flin Flon owned the Klips in their visit up there this year and outscored us by a wide margin in the 2 games they played.
However, that was then, this is now. The Bombers are a very strong and fast skating team who don’t make many mistakes. Hence the reason they are # 1 in the SJHL with 82 points, compared to 48 points for Kindersley.
This game started fast and ended just as fast as both teams wanted the win. Flin Flon got the first goal just under 3 minutes into the first period and it seemed like the route was on. However, the hometown heroes had other plans as they kept up, put the pedal to the metal and eventually overtook the visitors and came out with a 3 to 2 WIN! Cody “Noodles” Jaman played goal like an all-star and stopped 39 of 41 shots taken on him. And he was also chosen as the games 1st star!
The defence blocked shots and cleared the puck away to make things easier for him. It was a night of not giving up. That is one thing the Klippers have done right this season. Even though they may be down at times, they always give everything they have every shift. Coach Jardine and assistant coach Tyler Traptow have instilled in the boys the will to win, especially against bigger and tougher teams. It has been a pleasure to not only watch them but also to write something positive about them, even their losses.
808 fans saw a battle of epic proportions and surprisingly, not very many penalties. I think all the players understand that they can’t help their team by being in the penalty box.
What will the Saturday game bring? Who knows? For Flin Flon it will be their 3rd game in 3 nights and I don’t care how good of shape you’re in, that takes its toll on the body.
